Medical debt affects tens of millions of consumers. It is one of the most prevalent types of consumer debt, with one in five Americans being contacted by a debt collector over an unpaid healthcare bill. Of elders and non-elder consumers, 20% have at least one medical debt collection item in their credit reports. Elders may struggle to pay Medicare premiums and copayments, and are more likely than younger consumers to file for bankruptcy due to medical expenses.

This free webcast, Medical Debt Strategies for Older Consumers, outlines the issues facing older consumers and offers strategies to address the challenges. This session will highlight the various health care and medical debt protections which may be available to older consumers.

Closed captioning will be available on this webcast. A link with access to the captions will be shared through GoToWebinar’s chat box shortly before the webcast start time.

Presenter:

Jenifer Bosco, Attorney, National Consumer Law Center
The webcast will take place on Wednesday, October 18th, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. PT / 2:00 p.m. ET.
