Don't Get Scammed!
As Western New York continues to recover from the snow storm, here are a few consumer tips for working with companies to get through the cleanup and repairs:
1) Know the contractor or service professional: Ask about licenses and get referrals from friends or neighbors who have used the contractor’s services in the past. The Better Business Bureau is a good resource to check on a company’s reputation. Make sure that the contractor has insurance and a verifiable address. DO NOT issue payment until the work is completed.
2) Verify insurance coverage: Contact your insurance provider to find out what will be covered and what is needed to process any claims,
3) Be wary of price gouging: Unfortunately, reports of inflated prices on essential goods and services are already surfacing. Get estimates in writing and do your research. Multiple estimates are a good idea!
