Woman admits stealing from ailing father

A Buffalo woman has admitted stealing more than $71,000 from her ailing 84-year-old father over a more than two-year period while he was in an assisted living facility.

Sandra V. Gilliam, 59, of Shirley Avenue, pleaded guilty earlier this month in Erie County Court to fourth-degree grand larceny, according to Erie County District Attorney Frank A Sedita III.

Prosecutors said she admitted taking the funds, which were intended for her father's living expenses, from Jan. 27, 2011 to April 30, 2014.

Assistant District Attorney Candace K. Vogel said the funds consisted of monthly annuity checks and checks for the victim's long-term care, which Gilliam failed to divulve to his court-appointed guardian.

Gilliam faces up to four years in prison when she is sentenced July 24 by Judge Michael F. Pietruszka
